My Vacation
I just got back from a vacation to New York City. I went with my sister Julie and her friend Kate. We left on Saturday and returned today, on Wednesday. It was a great trip. Mainly, we went to go to the US Open Tennis Championship which started on Monday.
On Saturday, we walked from our hotel at 47th and 7th Avenue to Columbia University at 116th St. It was quite a walk. Mainly, we walked all the way through Central Park and then over a few more blocks to get to Columbia. It was fun. Then, we took the bus back to Mid-town. That night, we went to see “The Drowsy Chaperone”. It was fantasic!
On Sunday it was raining quite a bit, so we didn’t do so much walking. Though, we did head south this time. We wanted to find the birthplace of Theodore Roosevelt, which was around 20th St. We found it and it was completely under construction. I think it’s located in the Grammercy area of Manhattan. From there, we walked west to Chelsea and then back up toward Mid-town. As it was raining pretty hard by then, we stopped at a mall and then at Macy’s. Neither impressed me that much. That night we got tickets to see “Avenue Q”, which was HILARIOUS!
Monday was the first day of the US Open. We took the number 7 train out to Queens. It was raining most of the time, but it was supposed to stop around noon. It did and it turned out to be a beautiful day. We watched tennis all day, which was great. The Agassi match, which Julie really wanted to see, ended around 1am. Then, we, along with about 5,000 other people took the number 7 train back to Manhattan. We got back to the hotel around 2am. That was a long day that was a lot of fun.
After sleeping until around 10, we headed back out for more tennis on Day 2 (Tuesday). It was raining most of the day, but had a little break around 1. A bunch of matches started, but kept being stopped because of rain. Finally, around 3 all the players left the court and play was cancelled for the day. Since no matches finished, we can exchange our tickets for next year. So, now we have to go back because we already have tickets.
On Tuesday night, Julie and Kate went to see “Chicago”, which I had already seen. I went to see “The Phantom of the Opera”, which I hadn’t seen. It was ok. I’m glad I saw it, but I enjoyed the other two plays we saw more.
Here are the pictures I took on the trip.
