This is how it now looks when you walk in the front door.
There's the beginning of the hole I have to put in for the stairs.
Looking back at the front door from where the stairs will be.
That's how it looks upstairs.
Crap. That wall is right in the way of the stairs.
The wall starts to come down and the hole is getting bigger.
The start of my new hole. Notice the brace going to the roof. That worries me a little.
Weird how the boards toward the middle of the house have screws in them. I think these must have been added later.
These square nails are probabaly from when the house was originally built in 1888.
These screws just don't look like they're from 1888. Since they didn't have round nails, I can't believe they had screws. I'll have to look this up when I get some time.
It looks ok, though dark because I had to turn off all the power upstairs to take out the electric lines.
My hole. I just need to take out the joists to be finished. I want to make sure I cut them in the proper location.
A little brighter picture if I use the flash.
And the pile of garbage the I have to go through. I'm sure I can reuse most of the wood in there. I just have to take out the tons of nails.
Here's the space for the stairs. Ready to go!
